Yellow Ribbons for Returning Vet

FLORAL PARK NY -- This October, Nassau County Girl Scout Troop 3028 joined Stephanie Sanchez-Riffle (back row left), a lab associate at North Shore University Hospital; Gina Ryan, Business Development specialist at Zucker Hillside Hospital, and Kelly Soel, RN, community health nurse for North Shore-LIJ Health System, in a yellow ribbon campaign to help welcoming US veterans returning home.  The returning vet is Mrs. Sanchez-Riffle’s husband, US Army Sgt. John Riffle, who will be coming home from Afghanistan in November.  The yellow ribbon campaign decorated over 40 trees in Sgt. Riffle’s hometown of Floral Park to welcome him home.  Mrs. Soel, who is coordinating a networking/mentoring program of older veterans and returning veterans in conjunction with North Shore-LIJ’s Office of Military and Veterans’ Liaison Services and The Rosen Family Wellness Center for Law Enforcement Personnel and their Families, said the yellow ribbon campaign “symbolizes the health system’s commitment to veterans and establishes a connection to service personnel who have a strong sense of duty and community.  It’s the right thing to do.”
