Wagner College Dean Named to North Shore-LIJ Health System Board of Trustees

STATEN ISLAND, NY -- Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) announced today that Paula Dunn Tropello, Ed.D, Dean of Wagner College’s Evelyn L. Spiro School of Nursing, has been named to the North Shore-LIJ Health System Board of Trustees for a one-year term of office.

“We are delighted to have Dr. Tropello join our Board,” said Frank Besignano, chair of the SIUH Executive Committee. “Her educational achievements and practical experience enable her to be a valuable participant during our clinical and quality discussions at board and committee meetings.”

As an educator and advanced practice nurse, Dr. Tropello is representative of today's academic and clinical nurse leaders. She is nationally boarded and teaches in the nurse practitioner masters program, as well as practicing part time as a family nurse practitioner (FNP) in NJ.

Her doctoral dissertation was on "Origins of the Nurse Practitioner Movement." She holds memberships in Sigma Theta Tau Epsilon Mu Chapter, nursing's national honorary society, and the National League for Nursing, along with representing the college in the NY Council of Deans of Senior Colleges and Universities and at the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.

Dr. Tropello took her undergraduate nursing degree from the University of Virginia and holds a Master’s degree as a clinical nurse specialist in MCH health from the University of Florida, plus a post masters in FNP from Wagner College.

This fall she will be assisting in the implementation of the newly-approved Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at Wagner College, its first doctoral program, and was recently honored with the Change Agent Award by the college.

Dr. Tropello's special professional interest has been global and disaster nursing, having served or taken students on missions to assist in areas of widespread devastation including Uganda, Haiti, Nicaragua, and in the aftermath of Hurricanes Andrew and Katrina.
