New DNA Test for Prenatal Screening

A study in the New England Journal of Medicine shows that with a simple blood test, expecting mothers can now screen for Down Syndrome and other disorders. While the test is only offered to “high-risk” patients right now, Dr. Rajeevi Madankumar, reproductive geneticist at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and co-author of the study hopes it will be available to all pregnant women in the future.
