Mediterranean Diet May Help Lengthen a Person’s Life

A new study shows that following a Mediterranean diet can help someone live longer, which doesn’t surprise at least one New York registered dietitian. “This is what we’ve been telling people all along,” says Ashley Olivieri, RD, nutrition coordinator at Syosset Hospital, regarding eating more fruits, vegetables, whole grains and unprocessed foods, which are part of the Mediterranean diet. The study found that part of a person’s genes called telomeres do not shorten as rapidly if that person is healthy and does things such as eat a healthy diet.
