Life-changing ear surgery gives teen boy fresh start

Twelve-year-old Jared was born without his ears. He suffers from hearing loss and facial deformities, all of which are the result of Treacher Collins, a rare genetic condition. But thanks to Dr. Thomas Romo lll, director of facial plastic surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital, he’s looking towards a new beginning. Dr. Romo recently performed a life-changing surgery on Jared, using cartilage from the ribs to create a new left ear.
