Innovation helps health system track flu

As flu cases continue to surge, hospitals must find innovative ways to prepare for a growing number of patients. But planning for an outbreak this severe can be difficult without proper data. Dr. Brandon Godbout, vice chair of Lenox Hill Hospital’s emergency department, discusses Northwell Health’s biosurveillance dashboard, a system that tracks flu activity in New York City and Long Island. “During outbreaks of infectious diseases, the two most important factors are staffing and supplies,” says Dr. Godbout. “By tracking this, we’re able to reallocate those resources.”
