Hospital Chefs Compete for Best Veggie Dish

Thirteen hospital chefs participated in North Shore-LIJ’s Third Annual Ultimate Health Chef Challenge. This year, chefs competed to win top prize for the best tasting vegetarian entrée. Recognizing National Nutrition month, chefs served up savory cuisine that was low in fat, calories and sodium. Glen Cove Hospital won first prize for its “seitan polenta croquette dish with spicy pesto sauce, zucchini radicchio salad and watermelon shooter.” Forest Hills hospital placed second and Huntington Hospital received third. Research shows a plant-based diet can be associated with lower rates of many chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and cancer.
