Many put off getting a colonoscopy. But, after losing her 55 year-old father to colon cancer, Carly now makes screening a priority. Colon cancer is one of the most preventable cancers thanks to screening, says Dr. David Robbins, program director for the Division of Gastroenterology at Lenox Hill Hospital. Adults 50 and up should have a colonoscopy once every ten years. Those with a family history of colorectal cancer should begin screening earlier.
