App Will Help Prevent Need for Tommy John Surgery

GREAT NECK, NY – The number of baseball pitchers hurting their elbows and needing Tommy John surgery has been rising over the last decade, but an app that will soon hit the marketplace might help parents prevent this type of elbow injury, a Great Neck sports medicine physician says. “More often than not, this is a repetitive stress injury,” says Steven Rokito, MD, chief of sports medicine for the North Shore-LIJ Health System. “And traditionally, we’ve primarily thought about this as only or primarily affecting elite athletes, but we’ve seen over the last 10 years a rash, or an epidemic if you will, of this type of problem affecting our youth baseball pitchers.”
