Ambulance Service Takes to the Sky

Emergency medical responders don’t have to worry about clogged traffic on New York area roadways. They’re taking to the sky. In an investment that means the difference between life and death for victims of major trauma, heart attack, stroke and other life-threatening condition, the North Shore-LIJ Health System and Yale-New Haven Health have launched SkyHealth, New York area’s first hospital-based helicopter emergency medical service. North Shore University Hospital, a Level 1 trauma center verified by the American College of Surgeons, launched its rooftop helipad to allow quicker and safer landings of patients requiring medevac transport.
