GREAT NECK, NY – U.S. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy will deliver keynote remarks at a three-day multidisciplinary wound care symposium scheduled April 27-29 at the Marriott Hotel in Uniondale, NY, the North Shore-LIJ Health System announced today.
The conference will be presented by the health system’s Department of Surgery; The Institute for Nursing; and the Office of Continuing Medical Education of the North Shore-LIJ Health System.
McCarthy, D-Mineola, will highlight the impact of healthcare reform on patients and providers at the “Shining the Light on Wound Care” conference.
The symposium, a CME (Continuing Medical Education) gathering, is designed for physicians, podiatrists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, physical therapists, dietitians and certified diabetic educators.
“Ulcers of the lower extremities, particularly in individuals older than 65, are a common cause for visits to the podiatrist, wound care specialist, primary care physician, vascular surgeon or dermatologist,” said Alisha Oropallo, MD, the Director of the health system’s Wound Care Center.
“The majority of these ulcers are chronic or recurrent. This conference will highlight the most current best practices for this patient population.”
Day one will feature discussions and workshops focusing on vascular wounds; day two’s focus is on the diabetic foot; and day three will offer attendees a choice of three workshops on a variety of topics.
The conference is open to all health care professionals, but space is limited, so early registration is best. Registration fees include a continental breakfast, lunch , workshops, course materials and CME transcripts. Fees for North Shore-LIJ employees and voluntary faculty for all three days are $375.00; for only one day, the fee is $150.00; two days are $300. It will cost $445 for non-employees for all three days; $350 for two days and $175.00 for a single day.
