GREAT NECK, NY – U.S. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-9th CD) delivered the keynote address recently at a multidisciplinary wound care symposium presented by the North Shore-LIJ Health System.
In her remarks, the congresswoman highlighted the impact of health-care reform on patients and providers at the “Shining Light on Wound Care” conference.
McCarthy has more than 30 years of experience as a nurse and as a result has been a leader in Congress on health-care issues, working with her colleagues to ensure that all Americans have access to quality, affordable health-care. Her combined experiences as a health-care provider and lawmaker gave her a unique perspective on these issues, said course director Mary Brennan, RN.
“We were thrilled to have Congresswoman McCarthy here,” said Ms. Brennan. “She has been at the forefront of so many important issues. Her appearance here goes a long way in recognizing the significance of wound healing.”
The wound care symposium was attended by approximately 300 health-care professionals, including physicians, podiatrists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, physical therapists, dietitians and certified diabetes educators.
