US News Ranks Cohen Children’s Medical Center Among Nation's Best

Cohen Children’s scores high marks for ninth straight year, including top 10 ranking in urology

Cohen Children’s Medical Center has been ranked in the top 50 nationwide in nine out of 10 pediatric specialties by US News and World Report. The 2015–16 survey marked the ninth straight year that Cohen Children’s has been ranked in the top 50 in multiple categories.

Cohen Children’s ranked among the nation’s top 10 children’s hospitals for its expertise in pediatric urology. The medical center was also recognized for excellent care in the following areas: neurology and neurosurgery; diabetes and endocrinology; neonatology; pulmonology; cancer; gastroenterology and GI surgery; nephrology; and orthopedics.

“Our clinical outcomes are among the best in the country,” said Kevin McGeachy, executive director of Cohen Children’s Medical Center. “Knowing that their child will get great care should give families great comfort that they’ve come to the right place. They know that we have everything under one roof to care for their child.”

Cohen Children’s top 50 rankings in cancer, orthopedics, nephrology and diabetes were new additions to the list from last year. The hospital also rose in the rankings over last year in the other five categories.

“Sometimes things are more of a secret locally than they are nationally,” said Charles Schleien, MD, chair of pediatrics at Cohen Children’s. “We want to let people know this is how our peer institutions feel about us and let them know that these great services are in their midst.”

The US News rankings are based on a hospital’s reputation; medical outcomes, such as death and infection rates; and care-related indicators, such as patient volume, nurse staffing and availability of specialized programs.
