MANHASSET, NY –The Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center was ranked for the eighth-straight year as one of the nation’s elite children’s hospitals by U.S. News and World Report in its annual “America’s Best Children’s Hospitals” survey, the North Shore-LIJ Health System announced today.
“The fact that we have been ranked for eight years in a row means there is no better place to seek care for a child than Cohen Children’s Medical Center.”
Consistently being ranked among the elite children’s hospitals reinforces Cohen’s commitment to quality care, Mr. McGeachy said.
“Our doctors are committed to helping children,” said Kevin McGeachy, the hospital’s executive director. “That kind of dedication pays off for our patients, who see positive results from the care they receive.”
The medical center placed among the top 50 hospitals in five different pediatric specialty areas surveyed in the magazine’s 2014-15 rankings.
The facility was praised for its care in the areas of urology, pulmonology, neurology and neurosurgery, gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery and neonatology. Pediatric urology was among the top 25 in the country, according to the rankings.
“Being ranked for eight straight years as one of the nation’s best pediatric hospitals is testament to the excellent care provided by our physicians and nurses,” added Charles Schleien, MD, chairman of the Department of Pediatrics. “It is one of the reasons the Cohen Children’s Medical Center is a destination hospital for children from around the world.”
The US News rankings are based on a hospital’s reputation, medical outcomes such as death and infection rates, and care-related indicators such as patient volume, nurse staffing and availability of specialized programs.
