MANHASSET, NY – Three North Shore-LIJ Health System hospitals have been recognized as a 2014 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the nation’s leading accreditor of healthcare organizations.
Northern Westchester in Mount Kisco, NY; Phelps Memorial Hospital Center in Sleepy Hollow, NY and Staten Island University Hospital each earned the prestigious distinction in The Joint Commission’s 2015 annual report “America’s Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety.” The North Shore-LIJ hospitals were recognized for improving performance on evidence-based interventions that increase the likelihood of healthy outcomes for patients suffering from such conditions as heart failure, pneumonia and stroke.
To qualify as a Top Performer, hospitals must meet the following criteria:
- Achieve cumulative performance of at least 95 percent across all reported accountability measures.
- Achieve performance of 95 percent or above on each and every reported accountability measure with at least 30 denominator cases.
- Have at least one core measure set with a composite rate of at least 95 percent and, within that measure set, have a performance rate of 95 percent or above on all applicable individual accountability measures.
For Staten Island University Hospital, being tapped a Top Performer comes from the hospital’s understanding of the value patients place on the quality and safety of the care they receive, said Donna Proske, RN, the hospital’s executive director. “We made it a top priority to improve positive patient outcomes through evidence-based care processes,” she said. “Being named a Top Performer recognizes the knowledge, teamwork and dedication of our entire hospital team.”
Phelps President and CEO Daniel Blum agreed, adding that “quality care and patient safety are the number-one priorities” at the Sleepy Hollow hospital center.
“We are thrilled to be a Top Performer,” said Joel Seligman, president and CEO of Northern Westchester Hospital. “It’s a testament to the effort our entire team puts forth in achieving positive outcomes for patients.”
