GLEN OAKS, NY – John Kane, MD, was recently named one of Thomson Reuters “Highly Cited Researchers,” a listing of the world’s leading scholars in the sciences and social sciences, the North Shore-LIJ Health System announced today.
Dr. Kane is the senior vice president of Behavioral Health Services for the health system and professor and chairman of Psychiatry at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine. He currently directed the NIMH-funded Advanced Center for Interventions and Services Research in Schizophrenia at the health system’s Zucker Hillside Hospital.
According to Thomson Reuters, Dr. Kane was selected based on the number of citations his work has received from fellow researchers. In addition, Dr. Kane’s peers have identified his contributions as being among the most valuable and significant in the field of psychiatry/psychology.
In compiling the listing of the “Highly Cited Researchers, “ analysts at Thomson Reuters assessed certain scientific papers indexed between 2002 and 2012 in 21 broad fields of study. They tracked the authors who published numerous articles ranking among the top 1 percent of the most cited in their respective fields in a given year of publication.
In addition, Thomson Reuters included Dr. Kane in their list of “The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds: 2014.”
Along with his many awards in the field of psychiatric research and schizophrenia, Dr. Kane has authored or co-authored more than 400 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
He received his B.A. from Cornell University and his M.D. from the New York University School of Medicine.
