Telehealth Research

Research on telehealth is popping up all over the New York City area. Earlier this month, the department of cardiology at the Nassau University Medical Center was selected to be the site for studying telehealth's benefits for elderly African-American and Latino patients. The study is being conducted by the North Shore-LIJ Health System's Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, which in September got a $1.35 million research award from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute. Feinstein's Renee Pekmezaris is the lead researcher studying whether telehealth programs are effective self-management tools for patients with chronic disease. The study will exclusively enroll targeted patients upon discharge from NUMC.
