SOUTHAMPTON, NY – The Katz Institute for Women’s Health at North Shore-LIJ Health System is bolstering its effort to bring a heightened awareness to women’s health issues by teaming with the United States Golf Association this summer as the local sponsor for the 2013 U.S. Women’s Open Championship at Sebonack Golf Club. The tournament runs from June 24 to June 30.
The Women’s Open Championship brings an element and audience to eastern Long Island, drawing thousands of attendees from across the nation and abroad.
Spectators will have the opportunity to visit the Women’s Health Pavilion provided by The Katz Institute for Women’s Health to learn about specific conditions that are distinct, prevalent or manifest themselves differently in women, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, behavioral issues, gynecologic care and bone and joint health.
“The Katz Institute for Women’s Health understands that women have unique health-care needs and we are dedicated to improving health and wellness at every age,” said Stacey Rosen, MD, vice president of Women’s Health at the Katz Institute. “This is a women’s sporting event, so this is an extraordinary opportunity to educate attendees about women’s health issues.”
In addition, the “Katz Health Challenge” will provide attendees with a unique ID card that will track their activity throughout the event and enter them for daily and weekly prizes. Activities will include a golf swing analysis with K-vest, putting green, photo-booth and a wellness quiz.
Opened in 2006, Sebonack features holes offering panoramic views of the Peconic Bay and Cold Spring Pond.
