SYOSSET, NY – Syosset Hospital was recently recognized for its comprehensive bariatric services by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program.
Syosset Hospital not only offers bariatric surgery, but it also has a nutritionist – Christine Santori, RD – dedicated to weight management as well as a health psychologist, Willo Wisotsky, PhD. Having these resources helps patients who have had or will have bariatric surgery and those who choose another weight management route to keep their weight loss momentum. These health professionals are also available to help if a patient experiences a weight increase.
“Syosset Hospital has top-notch bariatric surgeons, who provide great care and monitor their patients, and having these additional services available has helped many of our patients succeed with their weight loss goals and become healthier,” said Heather Mullen, MD, director of bariatric surgery at Syosset Hospital.
To get this recognition from the MBSAQIP, Syosset Hospital went through rigorous staff training and created protocols to help obese patients lose weight.
There are almost 16 million people in the U.S. who are severely obese, according to the National Institutes of Health. Obesity is defined as a person who has a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher.
