Surgeons & Heroes: Wounded Veteran Gets Surgery to Ease Decade-Long Pain

Dustin "Doc" Kirby saved a lot of lives in the Iraq War, including his own.

When a sniper shot ripped through his mouth on Christmas Day 2006 he treated himself in the field. Thirty surgeries later his life was saved. But, he was left in pain, making it hard to eat, talk, or even smile.

Now, 10 years later Dr. David L. Hirsch, reconstruction director of maxillofacial surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital, is working to bring this hero veteran the relief he deserves.
