Selfless. Strong. Compassionate. Dedicated. It takes all of these things and more to be a nurse, which is why we celebrate National Nurses Week at Lenox Hill Hospital, Manhattan, Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital and Lenox Health Greenwich Village.
Each year, our nurses enjoy star treatment as we roll out the red carpet to kick off a week of events, talks and ceremonies honoring our nursing staff and all that they do.
“We're care givers and we're entrusted to care for sick famillies and patients at a very vulnerable time in their lives," said Irene Macyk, chief nursing executive at Lenox Hill Hospital. "Nurses aren't just committed to doing the task of the job. They're focused on taking care of their patients' mind, body and spirit."
The theme for Nurses Week this year is "the balance of mind, body and spirit" and the American Nurses Association (ANA) launched its Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation campaign. They chose to highlight thee Lenox Hill Hospital nurses for their commitment to that theme of personal wellness.
"I know the more we invest in them, the better they're going to do this for their patients," Macyk said.
