Vivo Health Pharmacy, a member of Northwell Health, has opened at Southside Hospital to help patients and family members get immediate access to prescription medications following a hospital stay.
The pharmacy adds to the hospital’s patient experience and helps speed along the recovery process. Prescriptions can be filled inside Southside Hospital’s front lobby once patients are discharged. Free valet parking at the hospital’s front entrance enhances the concierge feel.
“After someone has been in the hospital, sometimes it is difficult for them to get the medications and other things they need to continue to heal at home,” said Donna Moravick, NP, executive director of Southside Hospital. “At Southside, we wanted to make it as easy as possible for patients to be discharged and have what they need to continue their healing process.”
Vivo Health Pharmacy, which features a 24-hour clinical call center, is accredited as a specialty pharmacy by the Utilization Review Accreditation Commission (URAC). Less than one percent of all pharmacies in the United States – about 220 – have earned full URAC Accreditation for Specialty Pharmacy. Specialty pharmacies service patients with complex and chronic diseases and often require medication that can be complicated to adhere to, difficult to access and expensive.
Vivo also operates pharmacies at four other Northwell Health facilities – North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, Center for Advanced Medicine in Lake Success and Zucker Hillside Hospital in Glen Oaks – along with the Vivo Health Specialty Pharmacy in New Hyde Park.
