Earth Day arrived early for Southside Hospital volunteers who showed up for the hospital’s second annual cleanup day. The roadside trash removal – in partnership with local environmental group Keep Islip Clean – focused on a mile-long stretch along Spur Drive South in Islip.
About 50 volunteers from Southside Hospital, Northwell Health, PSE&G and Capital One participated in the cleanup effort on April 14. Approximately 70 bags of trash were collected during that time. Earth Day was April 22.
Volunteers picked up debris between Spur Drive South and the highly-trafficked Southern State Parkway, at a spot about two miles from Southside Hospital. Environmentally conscious Southside employees cleaned the same area last year.
“Southside Hospital has been a strong community partner for several years and this clean-up effort is just one way to show our commitment to the area,” said Donna Moravick, NP, executive director of Southside Hospital. “My sincerest thanks to all who came out and helped to beautify this stretch of road.”
