Southside Hospital will host a free heart health and education session for teenagers on June 3 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the hospital.
Attendees will have their blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and body mass index assessed as well as get an electrocardiogram (EKG), which looks at the heart’s electrical activity. They will also learn about risk factors for heart disease and ways to keep their heart healthy.
The educational session will end with a presentation and direct learning experience of hands-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and how to use a defibrillator (AED).
The parent or guardian of each teen must be present during the entire program. There is no physician referral required to participate in this event. This does not replace an annual physical examination for student athletes.
Pre-registration for the event is required and all results are confidential.
