Long Island Jewish Valley Stream Hospital (LIJVS) made its name change official when it installed a new sign this week. It’s significant because the hospital had been known as Franklin General since 1962.
Franklin became Long Island Jewish Valley Stream when it came under the operating license of Long Island Jewish Medical Center located in New Hyde Park, NY. The new sign is a reminder to the community not just of the name change, but of the other upgrades going on within the hospital.
“The new sign is symbolic in a way because we are instituting many new changes here at LIJ Valley Stream,” said Steve Bello, the hospital’s executive director. “We have plans to re-design our entire emergency department. We have an expanding pediatric orthopedic program. And the hospital has received quality awards for stroke treatment, joint replacement and sepsis treatment.”
