OR Manager Earns National Ambulatory Services Award

Ellen Carpenter, of East Atlantic Beach, NY, is the operating room manager in Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Medical Center’s Ambulatory Surgery Center (CFAM).

Northwell Health’s Ellen Carpenter, RN, has been named the inaugural recipient of the Ambulatory Services Achievement Award from the trade publication OR Manager.

Ms. Carpenter, of East Atlantic Beach, NY, is the operating room manager in Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Medical Center’s Ambulatory Surgery Center (CFAM), located within Northwell Health’s Center for Advanced Medicine in Lake Success. She has spent 34 years in nursing, rising through the ranks to oversee a staff of 40.

“Ellen Carpenter’s work ethic is immeasurable. She is always available to our staff, our surgeons, our patients and their families, our leadership team and senior administration,” said Gloria M. Collura, RNC, director of patient care services at CFAM.

She’s also an innovator. By streamlining the booking process, Ms. Carpenter was able to add 400 surgeries in 2015, bringing CFAM’s ambulatory surgery caseload to 7,400.

“She continuously looks at ways to maximize available operating room time at CFAM and ensures she works with all departments to ensure a smooth operating experience for our surgeons while maintaining a quality, safe, enjoyable patient experience for our patients and their families,” Ms. Collura said.

Ms. Carpenter will be honored at the OR Manager Conference, which begins September 21 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, NV.

“Every day I want to make sure my patients are taken care of safely and that the staff is happy,” Ms. Carpenter said. “A happy staff makes a happy surgeon – and a satisfied patient.”
