Keeva Young-Wright, President of the Northern Westchester Hospital Foundation, has announced that Omar Syed, MD, FAANS, has been appointed as the Foundation’s newest Board member.

Dr. Syed, who lives in Katonah, NY, with his wife Amie Dave, MD, and their children, Neil and Maya, is assistant director of the Gamma Knife Center at Northern Westchester Hospital and is in practice in Neurosurgery as a member of CareMount Medical.

Dr. Syed specializes in brain tumors and complex and minimally invasive spinal surgery. Dr. Syed has expertise in the use of this specialized, non-invasive radiation therapy for patients with brain tumors and patients with trigeminal neuralgia. Additionally, Dr. Syed has authored numerous journal articles and written several book chapters related to brain and spine neurosurgery.

“The Foundation Board is so fortunate to be comprised of an extremely dedicated and talented group of community members who support the hospital’s mission,” said Caryn Schechtman, Foundation Board Chair. “Not-for-profit hospitals like Northern Westchester Hospital rely on community engagement and fundraising to be able to provide the highest quality services to those we serve. Dr. Syed’s expertise will provide a valuable perspective to the Foundation Board and we look forward to having the enthusiasm and expertise that he brings as the newest member of the Board.”

Dr. Syed received his Medical Degree from New York University School of Medicine in New York. He completed his internship in surgery and residency in neurosurgery at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York and his fellowship in minimally invasive and complex spine surgery at the University of Tennessee/Semmes-Murphey Clinic in Memphis. He is Board certified in neurological surgery and specializes in neurosurgery, spine surgery and neuro-oncology.

“I am pleased to have the opportunity to serve on the Foundation Board,” said Dr. Syed. “My wife, Amie and I are active members of the community and our baby girl was born at NWH last year and we appreciate the value that a high quality hospital like NWH brings to our community.”

In 1999, the Northern Westchester Hospital Foundation was incorporated as a separate 501c (3) organization for the sole purpose of supporting NWH. The Foundation is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors who ensures that gifts are used according to donor wishes to support the important programs and initiatives at Northern Westchester Hospital.
