Northwell IT teams help local foster home and pet shelter

Northwell Health information technology staffers Teresa Beyhl, Edward Wienczorkowski, Lolita Hughes, and Danielle Williams helped brighten the holidays for foster children and teens this holiday season. More than 175 Northwell IT employees were involved with the effort.

The spirit of the holiday season is still alive at Northwell Health, where employee donations are still being tallied to give to a no-kill animal shelter in Huntington, NY.

So far, $1,400 for medical treatment has been collected for the dogs and cats at the Little Shelter Animal Rescue and Adoption Center, in addition to supplies for the shelter. But four-legged friends aren’t the only ones benefitting from their benevolent benefactors.

More than $3,000 in funds and gifts – everything from Nike Air Jordans to Barbie’s Dream House – were donated in December for children staying at a Hope for Youth group foster home in Bay Shore. The transitional home is geared to keeping siblings (ages infants to teens) together following removal from their family home by Child Protective Services.

Who are these post-Christmas elves working so diligently to brighten the lives of at-risk children and pets? They’re information technology (IT) staff in the Northwell IT groups of Revenue Cycle Application/Business Solutions Group, Project Access and Digital Patient Experience who are based at 2 Huntington Quadrangle in Melville, NY.

“These are people who work behind the scenes in health care, but as evidenced by their volunteerism, they’re just as dedicated as our doctors, nurses and medical staff when it comes to giving back to those in our community,” said John Bosco, senior vice president and chief information officer at Northwell. “I’m proud of the grass roots efforts of our employees in brightening the holidays for these two worthy causes.”
