Northwell Health’s Sanjey Gupta, MD, has been named emergency department director of the year by the Emergency Medicine Foundation.
Dr. Gupta is vice chairperson and director of clinical operations of the emergency department at Long Island Jewish Medical Center (LIJ) in New Hyde Park. Previously Dr. Gupta served as chair of the emergency department at Long Island Jewish Valley Stream. He is also an Assistant Professor at Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine.
“Dr. Gupta came to us with a wealth of experience at other busy emergency departments, and quickly established himself as a hard-working, efficient physician who could command the respect of his staff,” said Richard Schwarz, MD, medical director of Long Island Jewish Medical Center. “As a leader, he has shown himself to be open-minded and innovative, and has been very effective at revising Emergency Department workflows to help deal with the steady increases in volume we are seeing, while ably representing his department in hospital-wide initiatives.”
Dr. Gupta has been an active member of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) since 2001, and is currently a member of the ACEP Emergency Medicine Practice Committee. Dr. Gupta is a fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine and speaks regularly on resource-limited medicine topics.
Dr. Gupta completed his studies at Loyola University Maryland and New York Medical College School of Medicine. He completed his emergency medicine residency at North Shore University Hospital.
