Mr. Dowling has served on the IHI board since 2010, alongside other prominent leaders in the health care industry. This includes outgoing IHI board chair Dr. Gary Kaplan, chair and CEO of the Virginia Mason Health System in Seattle, WA. Mr. Dowling’s two-year term runs through May 2019.

“On behalf of my fellow board members and everyone at IHI, I am thrilled and grateful that Michael Dowling has begun his service as chair of the IHI Board of Directors,” said Derek Feeley, IHI’s President and CEO. “Since its founding more than 25 years ago, IHI has benefitted from the guidance, wisdom, and support of extraordinary board members, including the board chair. Michael continues a long line of visionary health leaders who bring great experience with quality improvement and health system transformation to IHI, helping to ensure that IHI’s expertise and support for profound change in the US and around the globe, remain as relevant as ever. I look forward to working closely with Michael over the next several years to build on our shared commitment to deepening the impact IHI can have on health care and on everyone’s health and wellbeing.”

The IHI is a Cambridge, MA-based nonprofit whose mission focuses on health and health care improvement – for both individuals and entire populations – worldwide.

“IHI is energizing and inspiring improvements in the quality of health care around the globe,” said Mr. Dowling. “I’m honored to serve as chair of an organization committed to redesigning health care into a system without errors, waste, delay and unsustainable costs.”
