Lenox Hill Hospital Appoints New Chief of Gastroenterology

NEW YORK, NY --- Patrick Okolo, MD, has been appointed chief of the division of gastroenterology and hepatology at Lenox Hill Hospital effective August 3, 2016. He previously served as chief of endoscopy and associate professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

In his new position, Dr. Okolo will lead clinical, research and educational projects, as well as provide mentorship within the Division. His expertise is in complex endoscopic procedures, specifically those involving the biliary tree and small bowel.

Dr. Okolo’s medical interests include para-bariatric syndromes, clinical epidemiology, endoluminal stenting and all aspects of therapeutic endoscopy, an area in which he received advanced training. He is a highly regarded lecturer and has held faculty positions at both Penn State College of Medicine and Northwestern University.

Dr. Okolo earned his degrees in medicine and surgery from the College of Medicine at the University of Nigeria, and interned with the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital. He trained in clinical genetics and internal medicine at Indiana University Medical Centre and then completed his gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Okolo also received his M.P.H from the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins. He is board certified in both gastroenterology and internal medicine.
