Northwell Health today announced the release of “Hyperbaric Therapy Heals,” the latest installment in its podcast series Health Story, an audio exploration of patient experiences and the latest innovations and health trends.
A bone infection that began in her foot led to a cascading health crisis which left Lisa Longo with a dire outlook, one that required the staff at Plainview Hospital to act quickly and think creatively.
“I thought I was going to die,” said Ms. Longo, a Ronkonkoma resident who struggled with diabetes, was living with kidney damage and was stricken with osteomyelitis and sepsis during the ordeal. What made all the difference was hyperbaric and wound care treatment led by John Hoina, DPM, at the Plainview Wound Care Center.
“The hyperbaric program at Plainview Hospital is the type of cutting-edge medical treatment that is happening throughout Northwell Health,” said Terry Lynam, the health system’s senior vice president and chief public relations officer. “This novel therapy is helping to curb the devastating effects of diabetes.”
Health Story podcasts are scheduled to air each month and will explore the impact new technology has on health care professionals and the patients they treat.
