As part of Huntington Hospital’s continuing efforts to provide the highest quality service to its patients and visitors, the hospital has rolled out a room service program where patients can select their food and receive it at their convenience.
The program, which began November 1, is available for patients from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.; food preferences after that time will be taken by the nursing staff. Breakfast items are available from 7 a.m.-10:30 a.m., including omelets, French toast and yogurt. Lunch and dinner options (from 10:30 a.m. until 7 p.m.) include salads, soups, baked Cod fish, grilled chicken fajitas and vegan Pasta Primavera. There are also deli options; grilled fare such as burgers; and desserts. All meals are low fat, low sodium and low cholesterol. There are gluten free, kosher and halal items available as well.
“We wanted to offer patients the chance to choose when they wanted to eat and offer them a wider variety of options to suit their palates,” said Leeann Pollard, CDN, director of food and nutrition at Huntington Hospital. “Eating healthy foods and foods that make people feel good are an important part of the healing process.”
Patients who are placed on special diets, including low fiber and consistent carbohydrates, as well as those who cannot make food selections for themselves, will have a Huntington Hospital food and nutrition employee help them with their daily choices.
