Huntington Hospital Receives Cancer Care Accreditations

Huntington Hospital’s cancer caregivers, who were recognized for providing great patient experiences.

Huntington Hospital has received a three-year accreditation with commendation from the Commission on Cancer (CoC) and a three-year full accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), both quality programs of the American College of Surgeons.

The hospital received six out of a possible seven commendations from the CoC during its survey. Huntington was also recognized for having all of its oncology nursing staff have expertise in administering chemotherapy and bio therapy. Also, more than half of the oncology nurses have gone on to get oncology certification from the Oncology Nursing Society.

The NAPBC designation evaluates  breast  care in terms of being patient-centered and multidisciplinary. Huntington Hospital’s breast cancer program has a dedicated nurse navigator – Joyce Davis, RN – who helps to guide patients through the complex health care system. The NAPBC noted in particular the group of physicians from various specialties and other cancer care experts who meet regularly to discuss care options for patients and come up with innovative ways to treat tumors as excellence in care.

“For people who have cancer and their families, it’s beneficial to receive cancer care at a top-notch facility close to home,” said Gerard Brogan, Jr., MD, executive director of Huntington Hospital. “With that in mind, Huntington Hospital places great importance on working together as a multidisciplinary staff to best care for our patients as well as getting the latest cancer care technology.”

Both accreditations are renewals for Huntington Hospital.
