Eileen Reardon, executive director of the Brain Injury Association of New York State, with Merav deGuzman.

Merav deGuzman, CBIS, supervisor of recreational therapy at Glen Cove Hospital, was recently honored by the Brain Injury Association of New York State with the Frank Pierce Chapter Champion Award.

This award recognized Ms. deGuzman for her “exemplary service to the association’s local chapters and support group.” Ms. deGuzman has founded a support group structure that benefits the hospital’s current brain injury inpatient population as well as people who have returned from the community seeking services.

Her outreach involves an annual brain injury awareness event that assesses the needs of the population the hospital serves. There are also fundraising efforts that go directly toward the Brain Injury Association chapters.

“I want to praise the team of therapists and physicians who have come together to collaborate with my on these efforts, making patient care and advocacy the main goals,” Ms. deGuzman said.
