Fred A. Lado, MD, PhD, Named Regional Director of Epilepsy for Northwell Health’s Central and Eastern Regions

Fred A. Lado, MD, PhD, has a new appointment.

Fred A. Lado, MD, PhD, has been appointed as regional director of epilepsy for Northwell Health’s Central and Eastern Regions.

“We are delighted to have Dr. Lado on board to further expand our adult epilepsy program,” said Souhel Najjar, MD, Northwell Health’s senior vice president and executive director, neurology services. “Dr. Lado’s clinical expertise focuses on treating patients who have not responded well to medication. His research focuses on advance neuroimaging and electroencephalography (EEG) analysis to better understand brain function and the changes that occur in the brain due to epileptic seizures.”

After graduating from the NYU School of Medicine, Dr. Lado completed medicine internship at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, neurology residency at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan, and fellowship training in clinical neurophysiology at Montefiore Medical Center-Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx. Dr. Lado also received a master’s degree in physics from the University of California in Berkeley, CA, and a PhD in physiology from the NYU Sackler Institute.

Dr. Lado served as an attending neurologist at Montefiore Medical Center for 17 years and achieved the academic rank of professor of clinical neurology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. At Montefiore, he held a number of positions, including clinical neurophysiology fellowship training program director, EEG laboratory director, and chief of service for neurology.

Dr. Lado has received numerous awards and professional recognition including three certificates of appreciation from the American Epilepsy Society, a TopScholar scholarship, and the National EpiFellows Research Award.  He is a member of the American Epilepsy Society, the American Academy of Neurology and the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society. He also serves on the board of the National Association of Epilepsy Centers, and as vice-chair of the physician advisory board of the Epilepsy Foundation of Metropolitan New York.

The author or co-author of numerous papers and book chapters, Dr. Lado has presented at many professional meetings. Most recently, he served as chairman of the Epilepsy Specialist Symposium at the American Epilepsy Society and American Academy of Neurology annual meetings.
