David M. Roane, MD, appointed chairman of psychiatry at Lenox Hill Hospital

Dr. David Roane has been named chairman of psychiatry at Lenox Hill Hospital.

David M. Roane, MD, has been named Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at Lenox Hill Hospital. In his new role, Dr. Roane, who specializes in neuropsychiatry and geriatric psychiatry, will be responsible for strategic planning, growth and development of psychiatric services.

Dr. Roane comes to Lenox Hill from Mount Sinai Beth Israel where he has held various roles of increasing responsibility for the past 25 years. Most recently, he served as the Associate Chairman for Education and Director of Residency Training in the Department of Psychiatry. He was also an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Over the past two decades, Dr. Roane has led and participated in clinical research on an array of topics with a specific focus on the psychiatric issues affecting the elderly population. He has authored, co-authored and peer-reviewed dozens of studies, articles and book chapters. Dr. Roane has presented his work at many national and international forums on topics such as geriatric depression, neuropsychiatric syndromes, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, psychiatric education, physician depression, psychosexual medicine and hoarding in the elderly.

Dr. Roane is involved with numerous prestigious organizations: he is co-chair of the Advocacy, Legislation and Government Relations Committee of the New York County Psychiatric Society, an assembly representative of the American Psychiatric Association and part of the editorial board of the Annals of Gerontology and Geriatric Research. He is also a member of the American Association of Directors of Psychiatric Residency Training. In addition, Dr. Roane has collaborated with the Jewish Association for Services for the Aged, the Lincoln Square Neighborhood Center, and the Education Alliance to develop innovative grant-funded programs to treat geriatric patients in the local community.

Dr. Roane earned his undergraduate degree from Yale University and his medical degree from Stony Brook University School of Medicine. He completed his medical residency at New York University Medical Center where he served as Chief Resident during his final year. He went on to pursue a fellowship in neurobehavior at Beth Israel Medical Center, where he joined the faculty upon completion of his specialty training. Dr. Roane is double board certified in psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry.
