The Dolan Family Health Center in Greenlawn will offer patients the assistance and services of a breast cancer navigator thanks to a grant from New York’s State of the State Patient Navigation Breast Cancer Screening Initiative.
Breast cancer navigators can help guide patients with the disease through a range of services and treatments that they may need, including help with scheduling medical appointments.
As importantly, the Dolan Family Health Center expects the breast cancer navigator will encourage more women to get screened for breast cancer and allow for better diagnostic follow-up with the appropriate patients.
“Patient navigation aims to reduce health disparities by assisting individuals and their families in overcoming barriers to accessing and completing cancer screening, diagnostics and treatment,” explained Joseph Volavka, PT, senior administrative director of the Dolan Family Health Center. “We are very grateful for this grant and breast cancer screening initiative and hope that this will help more women be able to get the cancer screening and treatment services they need.”
