For generations of Staten Island families Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) has been the place to deliver their babies. The hospital has delivered more than 3,000 births each year, and that number continues to grow.
To help serve the needs of Staten Island families, hundreds of borough residents walked together on May 20 in the Northwell Health Walk Staten Island to benefit a new Women and Newborn Center at SIUH.
At the event, longtime hospital and community supporters, Courtenay and Daniel Hall, founders of BELLA Magazine presented a check, pledging $100,000 to the new center.
“The Northwell Health Walk on Staten Island supports the healthcare services in our community, particularly the new Women and Newborn Center, which Staten Island so desperately needs with the increasing population,” said Brahim Ardolic, MD, executive director at Staten Island University Hospital.
The new facility will feature an expanded 20 bassinette neonatal intensive care unit, a new labor and delivery unit, and a postpartum suite – all designed to increase comfort and healing.
“We provide state-of-the-art care to the women of Staten Island and their babies. Now we will be able to do it in a state-of-the-art facility,” Philip Roth, MD, chairman of Pediatrics and vice president of Medical Education.
The new center will provide a seamless experience for mothers, babies and families through the integration of the Maternity Unit, Labor and Delivery and NICU onto a single floor. Private labor and delivery rooms will offer vastly improved comfort for patients and their families.
