Alan Matarasso, MD, plastic surgeon at Lenox Hill Hospital, has been appointed president-elect of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) at the organization’s 86th annual scientific conference in Orlando, FL.
A dedicated ASPS member for over thirty years, Dr. Matarasso previously served the organization as the vice president of aesthetic surgery and private practice. He was appointed as the 2015 ASPS traveling professor and currently holds the position of associate editor for the organization’s premier journal, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
“The American Society of Plastic Surgeons goes above and beyond to provide extensive practice support, educational opportunities, and advocacy for both national and international physicians,” said Dr. Matarasso. “I am honored to be chosen as the organization’s next leader.”
The year-long presidential term will begin in the fall of 2018. ASPS plans to honor Dr. Matarasso with an official gavel-passing ceremony at their annual meeting in Chicago this September. Dr. Matarasso plans to use his growing influence to improve plastic surgery for all patients and physicians.
Dr. Matarasso, who has devoted his career to aesthetic plastic surgery, received his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine. He completed his residency in general and plastic surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and went on to pursue a fellowship in cosmetic surgery at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. In addition to his work with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Dr. Matarasso is a member of more than twenty regional and national medical organizations. Throughout his career, he has authored over 180 scientific articles and 57 book chapters and has presented 567 papers, posters, and lectures nationally and internationally.
