MANHASSET, NY – Pey-Jen (Jenny) Yu, MD, was recently appointed to the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at North Shore University Hospital (NSUH). 

Dr. Yu joins an experienced team of cardiothoracic surgeons  at the North Shore-LIJ Health System who are experts in the latest surgical procedures, including cardiac bypass, valve repair and replacement, and minimally invasive techniques.  Her clinical interests include adult cardiac surgery, with a focus on coronary artery bypass surgery and valvular surgery. Throughout the North Shore-LIJ Health System, more than 2,700 cardiothoracic procedures are performed annually at NSUH, LIJ Medical Center, Staten Island University Hospital, Lenox Hill Hospital and Southside Hospital.

Dr. Yu obtained her dual undergraduate degrees in molecular and cell biology and business administration from the University of California, Berkeley. She received her medical degree from New York University (NYU) School of Medicine, and completed her internship and residency training in general surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital - Weill Cornell Medical College.  During that time, she also completed a research fellowship with the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at NYU School of Medicine.   After her general surgery residency, Dr. Yu returned to NYU, where she finished her cardiothoracic surgery fellowship in 2012.

In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Yu will collaborate with scientists at the Feinstein Institute of Medical Research’s Laboratory of Cardiopulmonary Research, part of the Center for Heart and Lung Research, to conduct basic science and translational research looking at molecular factors affecting patient outcomes after heart surgery.
