Northwell Health Raises Awareness about Colon Cancer with Go Blue Events

GREAT NECK, NY – From blue displays throughout Main Street in Riverhead to lectures in the community, Northwell Health is making people aware of their colorectal health and colon cancer.

The American Cancer Society anticipates that there will be almost 100,000 new cases of colon cancer this year. Men have about one in 21 chance of getting colon cancer in their lifetime and women have approximately one in 23 odds of getting the disease, the ACS said.

Throughout the month of March, Northwell Health is promoting colon cancer awareness through:

  • Colon cancer lectures: David Rivadeneira, MD, director of colorectal surgery at Huntington Hospital, at a law firm in Plainview on March 2; Cesar Sanz, MD, Northwell Health colorectal surgeon, at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore on March 4; Dr. Rivadeneira at Union Local 342 in Mineola on March 8; and Jacob Eisdorfer, DO, Northwell Health colorectal surgeon, at the Mid Island YJCC in Plainview on March 28.
  • Tables with colorectal cancer literature and blue giveaways at Plainview, Huntington and Southside hospitals.
  • Businesses displaying flyers and blue materials on Main Street in Riverhead with the help of Peconic Bay Medical Center.
  • An inflatable colon large enough for people to walk through and learn about the colon at Peconic Bay Medical Center on March 7.
