GREAT NECK, NY – Northwell Health has been recognized on DiversityInc’s Top 10 Hospitals and Health Systems for the fourth consecutive year. Northwell, placing 4th for its continued commitment to diversity and inclusion, was announced at the annual DiversityInc Top 50 event in New York on April 19.
“Receiving this recognition four years in a row from DiversityInc validates Northwell Health’s approach to diversity and inclusion within healthcare,” said Jennifer H. Mieres, MD, chief diversity and inclusion officer and senior vice president of the health system’s community and public health divisions. “Providing culturally-sensitive healthcare is critical to patient outcomes and that includes not only effectively communicating with our patients and their families but also embracing and promoting diversity in our workforce.”
DiversityInc’s Top 10 Hospitals and Health Systems recognition is based on CEO and leadership commitment; talent; workforce engagement; and supplier diversity. Northwell attracts, develops and retains a diverse and skilled workforce through its Business Employee Resource Group (BERG) Program. “The diversity of our workforce drives innovation,” states Barbara Felker, vice president of strategic community partnerships. “Our business employee resource groups develop patient centered business plans to enhance the health and wellness of the communities and markets we serve.”
Northwell’s leadership and employee workforce that participate in the BERG Program serve as cultural ambassadors committed to strengthening community and workforce engagement as well as expanding market reach, to ensure the delivery of culturally sensitive quality patient care. In addition to the BERG Program, Northwell Health promotes diversity and inclusion in its education initiatives, community partnerships, policies and hiring practices.
