NEW HYDE PARK, NY – As the 2015 major league lacrosse champions, the New York Lizards, take to the field for their opening game on April 23, they’ll be doing it once again with Northwell Health as the official health system of the team.
The health system and the lacrosse team have entered into a two-year partnership, with Nicholas Sgaglione, MD, chair and professor of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery for Northwell Health, serving as head team physician and medical director for the 2016 and 2107 seasons.
“We are honored that this organization recognizes our expertise and commitment in caring for their team,” said Dr. Sgaglione, who also serves as senior vice president for Northwell Health’s Orthopaedic service line and executive director of the Orthopaedic Institute.
“We look forward to a great 2016 season!” said Dr. Sgaglione.
Northwell Health provides physical therapy for athletes of all levels through its Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation Services (STARS) program. With seven STARS locations on Long Island and one in Queens, the team of skilled sports therapists work with Northwell Health sports medicine orthopaedists to employ a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to treatment and prevention of sports-related injuries
“We are very excited to have Northwell Health, the premier heath care system in the country, as a sponsor to the New York Lizards. Their continued commitment to the team exemplifies their belief in the importance of the Lizards in the tri-state area,” said New York Lizards’ CEO Jeffrey Rudnick. “Dr. Sgaglione is one of the top orthopaedic doctors in the country and we are so fortunate to have him looking after the well-being of our players.”
For their first game of the season, the Lizards will take on the Rochester Rattlers at Hofstra University, James M. Shuart Stadium in Hempstead.
