MANHASSET, NY – North Shore University Hospital, a member of Northwell Health, has been named a 2016 Women’s Choice Award winner as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Heart Care.
The Manhasset hospital is one of 352 hospitals nationwide and 10 in New York State to qualify for the evidence-based designation, signifying a commitment to meeting the highest standards in cardiac and/or vascular services.
This distinction identifies the country’s best healthcare institutions based on clinical performance, as well as criteria that examines female patient satisfaction and what women say they want from a hospital including quality physician communications, responsiveness of nurses and support staff.
With February designated as American Heart Month, the importance of heart care for women and awareness of cardiovascular risks has never been more important. One in four women dies from heart disease each year in the United States, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“Heart disease is the No. 1 threat to women’s health,” said Stacey Rosen, MD, a cardiologist and vice president of women's health at Northwell Health’s Katz Institute for Women's Health. “By recognizing the unique aspects of heart disease in women, we can improve treatment and save lives. This award recognizes North Shore University Hospital’s commitment to providing high-quality, personalized cardiovascular care for both women and men.”
