North Shore-LIJ Volunteers Recognized for their Efforts, Dedication

GREAT NECK, NY – The North Shore-LIJ Health System announced today that a dozen of its volunteers who work at several hospitals in Queens, Long Island, Staten Island and Manhattan were recognized for their service by the United Hospital Fund.

 Hospital volunteers across Long Island and New York City collectively volunteer about a million hours of their time to help patients and hospital employees, according to the United Hospital Fund.

 The following North Shore-LIJ volunteers were recognized for their service in Queens and Long Island: Maggie Tang, volunteer at Forest Hills Hospital; Evelyn Farquharson, Nancy Joseph and Theodora Pyle of Franklin Hospital in Valley Stream; Bertine Fields and Margaret E. Kiss Magyar of LIJ Medical Center  in New Hyde Park; and Rima Licht of Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New Hyde Park. In addition, Joan Coogan, Patricia Fede and Grace Trocco who volunteer at Staten Island University Hospital  were honored as well as Sarah De Forest and Barbara Kummel who volunteer at Lenox Hill Hospital  in Manhattan.

These volunteers were some of the 91 volunteers and auxilians who were honored earlier this month for their service at the 21st annual Hospital Auxilian and Volunteer Achievement Awards ceremony at the Waldorf-Astoria. 

“We are so grateful to all of our volunteers for the time they take from their own busy lives to help our staff provide high-quality service to our patients,” said Myra Cohen, director of volunteer services at Franklin Hospital .
