The North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System said it raised $21.5 million at a spring gala held at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in Manhattan last month.

More than 1,200 attended the fundraiser for the system, held once every five years, which included a performance by singer Harry Connick Jr. and Grucci fireworks over the Hudson River.

“We have surpassed the halfway mark of our $750 million campaign, Destination 2020,” North Shore-LIJ Chairman Richard D. Goldstein said following the fundraiser. “It was truly a remarkable evening.”

Bravo television host and author Andy Cohen and NBC-TV News correspondent Meredith Vieira hosted the event. CNN News anchor Chris Cuomo introduced North Shore-LIJ CEO Michael Dowling.

“It’s a tremendous undertaking. It takes a lot of planning,” spokeswoman Barbara Camhi Mlawer said. “We’re bringing everyone together. To coordinate all that takes time and effort.”

Previous galas had been held at venues such as the Waldorf Astoria.

In addition to hospitals and other facilities on Long Island, North Shore-LIJ operates hospitals across much of New York City.

“It’s an opportunity to embrace New York City in addition to Long Island,” Mlawer said. “We’ve done things on Long Island as well. It was an opportunity to reach out.”
