North Shore-LIJ Names Ira Nash, MD, New Medical Director for Physician and Ambulatory Network Services


MANHASSET, NY—The North Shore-LIJ Health System today announced the appointment of Ira Nash, MD, FACC, FAHA, FACP, to the newly created position of medical director of Physician and Ambulatory Network Services (PAANS).  In this role, Dr. Nash is responsible for the ambulatory network’s medical affairs as well as patient care delivery and quality. 
“North Shore-LIJ continues to build a large ambulatory network as patient care moves from the inpatient to the ambulatory setting,” said Dennis Dowling, regional executive director of PAANS.  “As PAANS’ physician-leader, Dr. Nash is focusing on the integration of practices into PAANS, physician alignment and utilization of health system resources to enhance ambulatory patient care.” 

North Shore-LIJ currently has nearly 400 outpatient physician practices throughout the metropolitan area, in addition to its 16 hospitals. Among its more than 9,000 affiliated physicians, the health system has more than 2,400 full-time doctors who are part of the North Shore-LIJ Medical Group, the sixth-largest physician practice in the country.

Board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular diseases, Dr. Nash joins North Shore-LIJ from Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan, where he held a number of senior positions, including chief medical officer and senior vice president for medical affairs. Prior to joining Mount Sinai, Dr. Nash was a full-time member of the academic staff of the Cardiac Unit at the Massachusetts General Hospital and the faculty of Harvard Medical School. 

Dr. Nash is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the American Heart Association (AHA) and the American College of Physicians.  In addition, he is a member of the AHA’s Clinical Council and has served on the ACC/AHA Joint Task Force on Clinical Competence, which sets standards for training and expertise in cardiovascular medicine.

Dr. Nash completed his undergraduate studies at Harvard College and received his medical degree from the Harvard-MIT Program in Health Sciences and Technology at Harvard Medical School.
