GREAT NECK, NY – The North Shore-LIJ Health System announced today that approximately 100 adults received free eye screenings on World Sight Day at its facilities in Manhattan, Staten Island and Syosset.
This is the second year that North Shore-LIJ has offered these free screenings on World Sight Day, which was Oct. 9 this year. The screenings were held at Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital; Syosset Hospital
and Staten Island University Hospital
“These free screenings are an opportunity to remind people how important their eye health is,” said Richard Braunstein, MD
, vice president of ophthalmology services for the North Shore-LIJ Health System and executive director of Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital. “People should regularly get their eyes examined and be aware of things such as their family’s eye health history.”
Ways to prevent potential eye issues include wearing sunglasses to block harmful UV rays from the sun and having a good diet with lots of dark leafy greens.
