North Shore-LIJ Expanding 2 ER Departments
by Claude Solnik
The North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System is expanding the emergency departments at Huntington and Southside hospitals.
North Shore-LIJ said it is adding 32,000 square feet in a $45 million project at the Huntington Hospital emergency department. And it’s in the middle of a $41 million, 31,000-square-foot expansion of the emergency department at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore.
“Both Huntington and Southside are in dire need of an expansion,” North Shore-LIJ spokesman Terry Lynam said, adding that the number of patients exceed the volume the emergency rooms were built to accommodate.
North Shore-LIJ also is in the midst of a $110 million project in Greenwich Village that includes a stand-alone emergency department slated to opens next June.
That facility likely will also provide ambulatory surgery, imaging and physician specialty services, Lynam said.
